Item: 94  Description: Glass Pole Top Cover Used in Germany. View 2 pictures one in use. (The image was captured from the internet and the resolution isn’t the best.) The pole the two linemen are working on is a “roof top pole”, a short pole affixed to roofing structures. Pole top covers didn’t just protect the top of the pole from weathering. A composite insert screws into the cover and allows for up to three wires (six holes) to make a dry spot connection under the cover. See View 3. In View 2 you can see where a wire from one of the conductors enters the cover underneath, and another wire leaves the cover to run down the pole and enter the house at some point. Glass pole top covers are known to have been made by VEGLA (Germany), ESA (Spain), and EIV (France). The only embossing on this one is the number “12”, but we presume it was made by EIV and exported to Germany. This glass cover is 5.75 inches wide at the base and nearly 6-inches tall. These date back to the 1950’s and ‘60’s.  Grade A .
