Item:Description: CD 126 Brookfield (235) Mustard / Yellow Olive Amber. “Mustard” is not an official color name for CD 126’s in the Price Guide. So Yellow Olive Amber would be the closest descriptor. There’s a hint of “olive” in the color, but not “green”. The color is unlisted for the (235) EIN. This EIN has the shop number on the reverse, whereas the similarly embossed and colorful group of (450) EINs have the shop number on the front.  Provenance: Pete Dennis offered to sell me this insulator twenty-some years ago at a show in southern Oregon. His story, as I recall, is that he had just acquired it and some aqua “blob tops” at a junk shop near Roseburg. I declined to purchase the piece and he ended up keeping it. Blob Tops were the first insulators used on the Southern Pacific Railroad (built in the mid 1880’s) in that part of Oregon. The insulator has a large fracture as visible in View 3. There’s no impact mark. In my experience, that kind of damage can result from the wooden pin inside the insulator getting wet, swelling up, and splitting the insulator (if the cross arm or side peg was on or in the ground). It’s also the kind of damage that can be repaired if someone is so inclined. Otherwise, there’s a small open bubble on the base as shown in View 4; a short bruise in the wire groove and a dome scuff.  Grade D because of the fracture. If you don’t want to spend Four-Grand for a near mint example, this one is a great alternative.
